Monadnock Region
The Monadnock Region has so much to offer in the form of outdoor hikes, activities, camping, dining – and even some night life – you just have to pay attention. Here are some helpful resources in case you want to visit:
Monadnock Region – NH on Facebook or http://www.southwestnh.com/
KIDS:
The Friendly Farm in Dublin if our goats aren’t enough for you.
Kimball Farm Ice Cream – cruise night on Wed
Monadnock Speedway (maybe older kids… who love Nascar)
Twinkle Town Mini Golf just down the road.
Humdingers Mini Golf in Keene (there is ice cream too!)
Arnone’s in Swanzey go karts and mini golf
Swimming
CULTURE:
The Colonial Theater in Keene has movies, performances and more.
The Peterborough Players put on several performances each summer.
The Fitzwilliam Inn down the road has a DJ on Friday nights and live music on Saturday nights. Various bars in Keene also feature live music throughout the week.
PLACES TO ADMIRE SOME NATURE:
Rhododendron State Park in Fitzwilliam. These Rhododendron’s usually bloom in mid-July, when most of our berries are also in peak season!
Cathedral of the Pines.
Hike Gap Mountain.
Hike Mount Monadnock (the second most-hiked mountain in the WORLD & the jewel of our view).
Dublin Lake
Chesterfield Gorge, a great place to stop and hike / paddle on the way to get some fine dining & art galleries in Brattleboro VT.
HISTORIC PLACES OF NOTE:
Covered Bridges, Swanzey and beyond.
PLACES TO DINE:
The Fitzwilliam Inn – A gorgeous inn with a cocktail named for us. I can also recommend the cocktail named for Judy, a berry grader in her youth. You can often find our fruit in their pies. Yum!
India Pavillion in Swanzey. Our family is British & grew up on curry, so we are choosy about our Indian food. This place passes the test with flying colors – you can also get a seat by the window and watch small planes fly in & take off as it’s in the tiny Swanzey Airport.
Lee Mount Fuji in Marlboro – fantastic sushi, chinese & more at a reasonable NH price! Say Hi to the lovely Annie & tell her that we sent you.
The Swanzey Diner – hands down the best pancakes around.
Luca’s Mediterranean Cafe – delicious, inventive & Luca uses our redcurrants for a delicious sauce.
Or check out the Monadnock Dining Guide.
